Winter is my favourite season in the Canadian Rockies. There is something about the peace & quiet that accompanies a fresh snowfall that I find calming. I love seeing the way snow transforms a familiar landscape. I wanted to do a bit of location scouting for some upcoming engagement sessions which inspired us to spend the day visiting our favourite places with our dogs Mabel & Leroy and a camera. I've been making it a goal to take more photographs of my family doing the things we love and this day could not of been more perfect to capture. Something about the start to winter with fresh snow on the mountains and a crisp blue winter sky that inspires getting on the road to monitor winter's arrival. We stopped at Two Jack Lake to watch the sunrise in Banff before heading to Peyto Lake where we found fresh snow and just the edge of the shoreline starting to ice up. We stopped in for lunch at Emerald Lake Lodge and then took our dogs for their favourite walk around Emerald Lake. As we made our way home to Canmore we made one last quick stop at Castle Junction to photograph Castle Mountain and check on the progress of the ice which is just beginning to form. November is a beautiful month of transition from late fall to early winter.
I find the changing of seasons to be endlessly fascinating in the Canadian Rockies. I love to visit the same spots in different seasons to get to witness their transformation.
We ended our day with a quick stop off at Castle Junction to check on the ice formation on the river before heading home to Canmore after a stunning day spent in the mountains.
